Intelligent Supply Chain Logistics

Technology is also being used within the logistics functions. The real-time tracking and monitoring of vehicle locations, container temperature, and weather and traffic conditions, provides the information necessary to adjust shipments and routes real-time to optimize deliveries.  Warehouse activities can be streamlined and automated through the use of technology.

Intelligent Technology Uses in Supply Chain Logistics

Below are some of the examples where intelligent technology is assisting within supply chain logistics.

  • Sensors and wearable devices can be used to detect, capture, and record data during shipping and receiving processes.
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) are allowing deliveries of products where road infrastructure is lacking.
  • Augmented reality (AR) is used to streamline and optimize warehouse activity in the picking and packing process, reducing lead time from warehouse location to truck.
  • Automatic guided vehicle systems (AGVS) can be used to automatically route material handling devices to predetermined locations.
  • Manufacturing execution systems (MES) utilize computer logic to direct manufacturing equipment, provide displays, and process and report information on the status of production.
